Two long-time campaigners for unity, justice, and peace in Ireland—all 32 Counties, of course—are the most recent recipients of the Irish American Peace Prize.
The prize was recently instituted by the Capitol Hill-based Irish National Caucus to “to honor and recognize individuals who have struggled for Irish justice over the past 50 years.”
OSMTH member Bob Bateman was one of two recipients in 2019. He was recognized on 20 June 2019 in Washington D.C.
Dear George (Platsis):
You will undoubtedly receive an official communication from the CoNGO President.
From my side I want to thank you for your exhaustive recounting of the
immense progress made by NGO CELL (Committee on Education, Learning and Literacy) since you took on the chairmanship.
At that time it was I who was the President of CoNGO, and I will not
forget the multiple challenges you faced. You took them on with great
determination and skill, and I was glad to have had many exchanges - personal and electronic - with you to support and encourage you in persisting with your uphill task.
Whatever the circumstances of the current transition, you would be right to be proud of handing over a functioning (and well-oiled !) machine. Your accomplishments are in the best traditions of OSMTH, and it is for that reason that I include Patrick Rea - serving currently as a CoNGO Vice President at Large - in this exchange.
I look forward to crossing paths with you in other CoNGO circles, where I know you will continue to uphold the honour of OSMTH.
Warm wishes
Cyril Ritchie
CoNGO First Vice President
On 20 June, GP Germany organized an ecumenical service within the "Evangelischer Kirchentag" in Dortmund. This service took place in the center of the city in the the beautiful Gothic church "Marienkirche".
The Celebrants have been our Brother Bishop Anba Damian and our Grand Chaplain Dr. Jörg Mosig (he organized the service). The church has - normally - space for 350 persons. Our service was visited by approximately 450!
The Church:
"Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church) is a church in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia state, Germany, located in the inner city. Since the Reformation, it has been a Lutheran parish church of St. Marien. The church was destroyed in World War II, but rebuilt. It also serves as a concert venue for sacred music.
The church was built on the Hellweg, a main Medieval road connecting the free imperial town Dortmund with others. It was erected between 1170 and 1200 in Romanesque style to serve the town's council and jurisdiction. It is the oldest extant church in Dortmund's inner city. Around 1350, a choir in Gothic architecture was built.
