OSMTH Charitable Donations: The Halo Trust
Simon LeFevre, Almoner General
OSMTH has followed the work of The HALO Trust over a number of years. OSMTH has taken note that The HALO Trust’s early Annual Reports explained that the “original concept…” of The HALO Trust was “…of a medieval order of chivalry, in which old knights, hardened by the wars, keep the roads open for pilgrims to Jerusalem”, and that both organisations thus share a common source of inspiration for their current missions; which they now seek to put into practice in ways appropriate to the needs of the modern world.
OSMTH has also noted that The HALO Trust, as a non-religious and non-political charity, has been an innovator in, and a world-leading proponent of, war debris clearance and preventative educational programmes since the introduction to the international community of the concept of “humanitarian mine clearance” by the then Hazardous Areas Life-support Organisation (HALO) in 1988.
The 2,000 Euro donation from OSMTH is being used to:
- to support the HALO Trust Appeal for mine, bomb, and war debris clearance in Nagorno Karabakh, following the 2020 conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
This support will allow the HALO Trust to continue its lifesaving work and to provide much needed jobs to 155 Karabakhi staff and is all the more important since the HALO Trust is currently the only international humanitarian aid agency able to access the territory.
